“What’s in a name ..”,sighed the bard . A lot, say numerologists . It’s not uncommon for film-stars to add an alphabet or reduce an alphabet from their name or many go to the length of changing their name just because they believe their name can change their fortune.
I had a niece added to the family recently and though I am not superstitious over names, I wanted her to have a unique name with a nice meaning.
While I was going through online sites to come up with some names, I came across a baby name site that insisted that the name Gandhi means Sun. I had my doubts. Because there is this tamil word for Sunflower called Suryagandhi. If Surya means Sun, clearly gandhi can't. So I delved into the Capeller Sanskrit dictionary and found that Gandhi means smelling of or perfumed with. That's interesting, because then Rajiv Gandhi will mean smelling of lotus.
Now that sounds more BJP than Congress, right?!
